Who dies in Demon Slayer? Complete List

As the name of the anime indicates, there are many chances for a character to get killed. So, it is pretty obvious that many casualties might have taken place throughout the entire anime.

Firstly, the world in Demon Slayer anime is filled with a lot of demons. These demons attack many people for their benefit. Then, there are those skilled characters who kill these demons to protect the precious lives of ordinary people. Now comes the main question, who dies in Demon Slayer anime? Do we have to consider all the deaths of people that happen in the anime? No, we don’t have to consider all the deaths that took place throughout the anime.

However, about the first question, I will mention deaths of a few important characters.

In the very beginning of the episode, we get to see that Tanjiro’s family gets attacked by the Demons. In that attack, Tanjiro‘s mother, Kie Kamado, was the first person who gets killed along with Tanjiro’s other siblings.

Now, apart from Kie Kamado, I will mention the death of main characters, which includes Hashiras and Demons.

Hashira deaths in order

The death of Hashiras certainly provokes a sense of grief among the audience. It is just that they always fought for the welfare of the common people. So, below I will mention the deaths of all Hashiras.

1. Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku dies during the Mugen Train Arc. Rengoku, along with Tanjiro and his team, goes and fights the demons who were behind the 40 missing passengers of the train. Rengoku kills Emmu, a lower-rank demon. However, out of nowhere, another demon attacks Rengoku. The demon was the upper rank 3 demon, namely Akaza. Rengoku gives Akaza a tough time. Akaza was somewhat impressed with the skills of Rengoku and he wanted him to be a demon so that they could fight together for hundreds of years. However, Rengoku denies Akaza’s proposal. Ultimately, in Upper Moon 3, Akaza kills Rengoku.

2. Shinobu Kocho

During the Infinity Castle arc, Shinobu Kocho fights the upper-rank 2 demon, namely Douma. Shinobu Kocho often used to smear wisteria poison on her blade while fighting an enemy. During the fight with Douma, she does the same, and she thinks she killed Douma. However, Douma overcomes the effect of wisteria poison with his demonic powers crushes the spines of Shinobu, and kills her.

3. Muichiro Tokito

Muichiro Tokito survives and has won many missions before. But during the Infinity Castle arc, the scenario was different. Muichiro was against the strongest demon after Muzan, namely, Kokushibo. The speed of Kokushibo was so fast that Muichiro was unable to react. Kokushibo used some sort of moon breathing and stabbed through the heart of Muichiro, leaving him dead.

4. Mitsuri Kanroji

Mitsuri Kanroji was referred to as Love Hashira. She was as beautiful as she was skilled. Mitsuri Kanroji dies at the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji during the Infinity Castle arc. During the fight, she loses both her arms and then ultimately dies as she loses all her blood.

5. Iguro Obanai

Also referred to as Snake Hashira. Iguro was one of the best and most skilled Hashiras. During the Infinity Castle arc, Iguro gave his all to defeat demons. But he then ultimately was against the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. Iguro dies at the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.

6. Gyomei Himejima

One of the saddest deaths in Demon Slayer anime. The soft-spoken and the strongest Hashira among all Hashiras ultimately dies during the Infinity Castle arc. Gyomei assisted his comrades in defeating Kokushibo. He then shifts towards Muzan Kibutsuji. Gyomei initially loses his leg and then gets killed by Muzan.

Upper Moon Deaths in order

Now, I will mention the deaths of Upper Moon demons. No doubt, this is a happy moment for fans, but there are certain demons whose backstory also hurts a lot, like Gyutaro.

1. Daki and Gyutaro

Two siblings, Daki and Gyutaro, are the two upper moon demons. However, they both dwell in the same body until the fight during the Entertainment Arc. It was Tengen Uzui, his three wives, Tanjiro, and his comrades who killed Daki and Gyutaro during the Entertainment District Arc.

2. Gyokko

Gyokko was killed by Muichiro. As Gyokko was also a type of artist, he was so keenly observing the art skills of Hotaru that he forgot that he was fighting his enemy. In the meantime, Muichiro marked his technique and killed him.

3. Hantengu

Hantengu gave a very tough time to Tanjiro. Thanks to Kanroji and Muichiro who distracted the other demon. Tanjiro with the help of Nezuko’s demonic powers was able to behead Hantengu.

4. Akaza

Akaza fought Giyu and Tanjiro. Akaza somehow regains his memory from the very start. He destroys himself with his Demonic powers. His way of death is way too different than other demons.

5. Douma

After the fight with Shinobu, Douma gets poisoned by her which weakens his powers. Then Kanao Tsuyuri beheads Douma and brings the end of an extreme evil.

6. Kokushibo

During the infinity castle arc, it took three Hashiras, which included the strongest Hashira Gyomei, to kill Kokushibo. The wound from Muichiro’s burning blade causes the disintegration of the body of Kokushibo and ultimately his death.

7. Muzan Kibutsuji

The Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji ultimately meets his fate. He dies due to exposure to sunlight.
